Why YouComics exists

It started with one birthday present that took weeks longer than it should have.

YouComics is not here to replace artists. It is here so that anyone can give someone a story with them inside it.

The first one took me weeks

In 2024 I wanted to give my girlfriend a birthday gift nobody else could give her. She loves Attack on Titan, so I decided to put her in it.

It did not go well at first. AI image generation was only just becoming usable, and the tools of the day kept losing her. Her face drifted from panel to panel until she was not herself any more, just a generic anime character with roughly her haircut. I spent days, then weeks, regenerating images to force something that actually looked like her.

Eventually it worked. I had it printed and gave it to her on her birthday, and she still calls it the best gift she has ever been given. That was the moment the idea arrived: build a system so other people can do this for someone they love, without the weeks.

The problem we actually solve

Face drift is the thing that breaks personalized comics, and it is still the most common complaint about AI products in this space. A likeness that holds for two panels and then quietly becomes someone else is not a gift, it is a near miss.

So that is what YouComics was built around. The character design and the likeness hold from the first page to the last, however long the comic runs, and the story keeps its thread the whole way through. You can check this yourself before paying for anything, because the first two pages of any comic are free to read.

Where the AI stops and a person starts

Worth being straight about, because most of this industry is not. The stories in our catalogue are not machine-generated. I wrote them myself, picking themes and shaping plots that hold up for kids, teenagers and adults, because a comic that reads like filler is not worth printing no matter how good the art is.

The AI does the drawing and the likeness work. It puts a real face into an illustrated world and keeps it consistent across every page. That is a genuinely hard problem and it is what the technology is good at. Writing a story that means something to the person opening it is not that problem, and we do not pretend otherwise.

If none of the written stories fit, you can build your own from scratch instead.

The printed products

Comics are printed on A4 pages and properly bound, softcover or hardcover, and shipped anywhere for one flat rate. Pick one up and it feels like a book, not a novelty. The gift range beyond comics runs from mugs and posters to t-shirts, candles and plush toys, all made from the same uploaded photo.

Prices stay deliberately low because the point was never the object. It is the person on the cover, and I would rather more people got to hand one over.
